Latitude 31 Bar and Grill
Just the Bar Tender Sitting high on a hill with a spectaculair view overlooking the old port of Peńasco is Latitude 31. Former Phoenix residents Mike and his wife Cindy opened the restaurant and bar 11 year ago after buying a hill side lot on which Latitude 31 currently sits and selling another restaurant they owned in Puerto Peńasco. Mike says when his wife is away he’s the owner, when Cindy is around he is just the bar tender. Mike is a very friendly guy, striking up a conversation with all those who come in for a meal or drink. Hanging over the bar is a 1988 photograph of a thrasher shark that he and his buddies had brought in during low tide. He says one day in 88 when the tide had started to go out, the shark was in relatively low water in front of JJ’s Cantina. He and his buddy slipped a rope over the shark and Mike dragged the shark into shore with his ATC. The shark had to have been 15 feet long. And that is no fish story. Take a look at the photo in the bar for yourself. Great for Watch Sporting Events My wife and I really enjoyed this place. It’s great for watching sporting events on a hot and muggy afternoon. After playing a round of golf you can come in, enjoy the air conditioning, and sit back with a cold beer. It’s very clean, open, and most importantly very good food. Their cheeseburgers are excellent. Try the gut buster customer favorite cheeseburger in paradise which is topped with a slab of green hot chille. They offer a wide selection on the menu including New York Strip steaks, Fillet Mignon, Cameroon Scampi, Fajitas de Pollo, and Tacos de Pescado. If the owners are around but the restaurant is not yet “officially” open they’ll offer to make you breakfast. They also have a kids menu that includes grilled cheese. Good for the Kids Speaking of kids, the restaurant is kid friendly with a small play area with some toy and crafts. During the Christmas holiday season Mike and Cindy display a model train set complete with the Santa Express, tunnel, snow and painted lake. Sometimes you’ll see Mike’s two children running around making friends with the patrons. 8 Flats Screens In the dinning room is a fireplace keeping you warm on a cool Rocky Point evening in the winter as a paper mache Guacamaya flys overhead. Latitude 31 claims to have the “longest” bar in rocky point with 8 flats screens showing up to 7 NFL games at once and any other sporting event. The restaurant has outdoor seating with a birds-eye view of the old port and the resorts of sandy beach out in the distance. Inside, colorful oceans and sea life adorned the walls above the bar and murals depicting traditional Mexican culture surround the main restaurant seating area. Steph and I were very surprised to hear that Mike and Cindy have put their restaurant up for sale. They have Latitude 31 listed for $1.9 million dollars.
