Thirsty Parrot

A few months back Steph and I were in town with my sister and brother-in-law.  We stopped by the Thirsty Parrot to give it a try.  The place was packed. Brent Burns was there that weekend entertaining the crowd.   Brent can be compared to Jimmy Buffet with his own take on the curve ball life throws us.  Owned by four Americans, Cathi Boyle, Terry Miller, Steve and Warren Nitz, as well as Mexican national Javier Ortega, the partners strive to create a beachy casual atmosphere that welcomes you to eat, drink, relax and enjoy!  It’s our understanding that they have been open for about a year.  Cathi sends out regular emails letting everyone know what entertainment they have planned for the upcoming month. Recently she’s had Alonzo with his reggae, calypso and steel pan sound, the laid back jazz of Vanie and Tony and the recent addition of La Culebra to the line up.

The Thirsty Parrot sits on the second floor across from the Governor’s Plaza in the Malécon, Old Port with a spectacular view of the Sea of Cortez and the Malécon Shopping district.  If you’re in need of a break

while shopping on those hot and humid unbearable days, the Thirst Parrot is air conditioned, giving you a well needed relief from the heat.  On a breezy afternoon last month,  Steph and I enjoyed a couple cold Sols and a view of the sea on their roof top seating.

The restaurant offers a relaxing Caribbean atmosphere, palapa bar, and 5 flat screen televisions. It’s decorated with parrots hanging from the ceiling, photos of customers on the walls, and surf boards hanging above the bar.

The Thirsty Parrot offers a variety of specials, everything from 2 beers for a free house tequila shot to the fish taco special, and frozen 1 dollar drink days.  They are supporters of the community; sponsoring business development events in Rocky Point and calls for medical help to those in need within the community.
